UNDERWATER INSPECTION IN-LIEU OF DRYDOCKING (UWILD)

Underwater Inspection in Lieu of Drydocking (UWILD) is the safer, faster and cheaper alternative for the required hull inspections without the need for the marine assets to be sent to the dry docks. Innospection is currently developing a MEC-Combi Robot system able to perform the hull cleaning and inspection of the marine assets at their working location without the need for dry docking.

CAPABILITIES

The MEC-Combi Robot which Innospection is currently developing is a remote controlled, topside deployed robotic inspection system for the hull cleaning and inspection of marine assets like vessels, FPSOs, FSOs, semi-submersible pontoons and drill risers without the need for dry docking.

The MEC-Combi Robot is also a smart inspection system aimed at replacing the need for diver activities in the UWILD inspections.

It is based on the next generation MEC (Magnetic Eddy Current) technique having high detection sensitivity for internal and external corrosion and defects including isolated pits of very small diameter and volume.

BENEFITS

UWILD inspection is performed to ensure the structural and operational integrity of the marine assets throughout its operational life span.

The benefits offered by MEC-Combi Robot for the UWILD inspection of the marine assets at their working location are:

  • Time and cost savings for the Operator through

    • reducing downtime and time off-contract

    • eliminating the need for expensive and limited dry-docking

    • replacing the need for divers activities

  • Simultaneous cleaning inspection operation through the incorporation of an advanced cleaning system

EQUIPMENT

The MEC-Combi Robot offers the following advantages:

  • Cost effective cleaning and inspection solution

  • Comprehensive inspection data within a single deployment through the incorporation of supporting inspection techniques:

    • High resolution Ultrasonic mapping

    • Pulsed Eddy Current Testing (PECT)

    • Laser triangulation system

    • Camera system

  • Capable of self-crawling along the inspection surface to perform the scanning in axial and/or circumferential orientation

  • Ability to remain in stable contact with the inspection surface despite the turbulences and waves due to its integral buoyancy and magnetic system

  • Deployed directly from the marine FPSO, FSO and vessel with the Crane Launch & Recovery System (LARS)

  • The pinger system enables the automatic positioning of the MEC-Combi Robot while performing the inspection

The signal data is transferred in real time via the umbilical to the inspection computer located on the installation or support vessel to provide instantaneous inspection results. The advanced reporting software utilises a combination of comprehensive C-Scan mapping, individual defect sizing analysis and matrix data to provide a reliable and extensive condition assessment.
